JOURNEY Towards A Healthy Scalp

Healthy Scalp Maintenance
Normal Scalp Care
-
Shampooing your locs regularly with our Cleansing Loc Shampoo is a great way to encourage and maintain a healthy scalp. We advise shampooing locs once mature, every 2 weeks (fortnightly); however, finding a routine that works best for you is recommended to maintain consistency.
-
We advise a thorough scalp massage when shampooing to help remove dirt, build-up, and dead skin cells. This will encourage follicle stimulation for hair growth and the release of natural scalp sebum, which can help alleviate a dry scalp.
-
We also encourage regular scalp spraying with water-based products, such as our humectant-rich Hydrating Scalp Spray, to help provide optimal scalp hydration and support healthy scalp maintenance.
-
In addition, once locs are mature, we recommend using a light oil or a mixture of light oils, such as our specially formulated Healthy Scalp Oil or safflower oil, sweet almond oil, etc., to base the scalp without forming a heavy build-up after cleansing or hydrating.
Dry Scalp Care
A normal, healthy scalp tends to look like a healthy flesh tone colour, similar to your overall complexion, sometimes a little lighter. A dry scalp appears almost white and may be accompanied by light flaking. Many tend to experience a drier scalp during colder weather. If you experience a dry scalp after following our Healthy Scalp Care recommendations above, we recommend adding an aloe-based gel or serum, such as our Soothing Scalp Serum, which helps soothe and moisturise the scalp without excessive build-up, as well as increasing your scalp moisturising routine. Instead of just oiling your scalp after washing, try applying oil 2-3 times a week after using your water-based hydrating spray and serum to help lock in more moisture. Make sure to use a Detoxifying Treatment to help remove any light build-up that may occur from using more oils in your routine. We also recommend including the Exfoliating Scalp Treatment in your wash routine to help remove dead skin cells and flakes, keeping your scalp clear and decongested.
Itchy Scalp Care
If you are experiencing severe scalp itching and flaking, you may have dandruff. We recommend using our Exfoliating Scalp Treatment before every wash and cleansing your scalp with a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo to help address the root cause. We also recommend using our Calming Scalp Spray and Calming Scalp Oil in place of your regular scalp care products to help alleviate the symptoms. In severe cases, we recommend an oil-free scalp care routine, using our Soothing Scalp Serum as the last step in place of any oils.
